Today, 28th of June 2018, the WP4 Final Workshop on “Biorisk Management Capacity” in Vientiane, Lao PDR, has officially began.

Today, 28th of June 2018, the WP4 Final Workshop on “Biorisk Management Capacity” in Vientiane, Lao PDR, has officially began.

The Workshop will close the activities of Work Package 4 (Assessment of existing capabilities relevant to biosafety and bio-risk management), which is part of the “EU CBRN CoE – Project 46”, which aims at developing the capacity of South East Asia countries to address CBRN risks. Work Package 4 involved 6 countries of the region: Brunei Darussalam, Lao PDR, Viet Nam, Myanmar, the Philippines and Cambodia.

The Final Workshop in Vientiane will benefit from the expertise of Component 2 experts Dr. Philippe Stroot and Eng Mark Wheatley, who will present their assessment of South East Asia capacities regarding bio-risk management. Along with them, the Project 46 Team Leader, John Jones, will give lectures on procedures of import and export of biological substances. In addition, a discussion on possible developments of national capacities in addressing bio-risk management is also envisaged.

Participants are representatives of both the Ministry of Health and the National Focal Points.
