The second of two training workshops on Biosafety and Biosecurity for Sustainable Biorisk Management was conducted in Yangon, Myanmar from March 20 to 24, 2017.

The event was formally opened by Dr. Khin Maung Latt, National Focal Point of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

The workshop focused on specific aspects of biorisk management and implementation of a biorisk management program or system.  This is a follow up of Workshop I held in Vientiane, Lao PDR, from February 6 to 10, 2017. There are 16 delegates (Bio-Risk Expert Team) involved in the program from South-East Asian countries, namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam. After this first phase (Workshop I and II), delegates will become trainers in their own countries, delivering national training sessions.      

The workshop was conducted in the framework of Component 2 – Capacity Building in Biosafety and Biosecurity, including Bio-Risk and Waste Management – of CBRN CoE Project 46 “Enhancement of CBRN capacities of South East Asia in addressing CBRN risk mitigation concerning CBRN first response, biosafety and biosecurity, awareness raising and legal framework”.  The project is implemented in close collaboration with the CBRN CoE National Focal Point of Myanmar, Dr. Khin Maung Latt, Director General, Department of Atomic Energy, Ministry of Education.
