The second regional workshop in a series of three was organised on Design, Construction and Management of a Containment Laboratory in Ha Noi, Viet Nam, at the premises of the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology from March 20 to 24, 2017.

The 33 delegates (Design Expert Team) involved in the programme are from 8 South-East Asian countries, namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam. The participants form a Design Expert Team which had already participated successfully in a first regional workshop held at the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine in Metro Manila, Philippines in February 2017, and will conclude its training through a final workshop in Brunei Darussalam in November 2017.

The workshop in Ha Noi was officially closed by Prof. Le Thi Quynh Mai, Deputy Director, National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology of Viet Nam as well as by Mr. Carlos Lopes Correia, Political Advisor, Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam. It was organised with the support of the CBRN CoE National Focal Points of Viet Nam, Dr. Nguyen Tuan Khai, Director General, VARANS, Ministry of Science and Technology, and Mr. Pham Hai Anh, Deputy Director General, Department of International Organisations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

These workshops are organised in the framework of Component 2 – Capacity Building in Biosafety and Biosecurity, including Bio-Risk and Waste Management – of the CBRN CoE Project 46 “Enhancement of CBRN capacities of South East Asia in addressing CBRN risk mitigation concerning CBRN first response, biosafety and biosecurity, awareness raising and legal framework”.
